Selaim

    Novice Female Elf, Rogue

    Background

Abandoned at the orphanage at a young age, all that Selaim remembers is the orphanage. She spent most of her formative years there and was even friendly to many of the other children. At one time she even considered Zak a friend except he was much older and he did tend to stand out with his blue hair. But she did enjoy his singing. Later she met a young girl named Coral and enjoyed her company.

Her life there was good and then became great when she met a half-elf named Villian. He was so smart and seemed worldly she quickly had feelings for him. He taught her that the guards look down upon them because they were orphans and she definitely saw that when he pointed it out. He also explained that gnomes were sub-humans because they were short and looked funny because well they were. Soon she got her first taste of love when he stole a kiss one day after they returned from the market where he was showing her how to make money. Villian was her world. And Villian introduced her to a whole new world of people who seemed really nice.

One evening when she went to take a bath after spending time with Villian, she heard a commotion and turned around seeing the blue hair of Zak as he was rushing out of the bathing room. Incensed she quickly rinsed off and went to speak to the matrons. On the way she was met by Villian who of all things was beaten up and bloody. According to him , Zak did it when Villian caught him spying on her. But Zak had told the matrons that he'd been the one spying and that he was on his way out of the orphanage. Shocked, Selaim ran to the matrons to explain what she had seen and that it was Zak wwho had been spying on her. When the matrons didn't believe her she left with Villian who planned on living with his friends.

At first it was pleasant and everything was fine. Then one day Selaim asked why they were taking things from the merchants. Villian beat her for that as he explained that the merchants had more than enough and were greedy. That since they refused to share they were getting what they deserved. He later apologized and took her back. And things were fine until the next time. And then the next time. And then the next time. Until she knew that guards were evil and only wanted to harm people like her, that merchants were greedy and refused to share, that the clergy was corrupt and their paladins were a bunch of "holier than thou" stuck up rich people and perfect marks. These lessons were reinforced through beatings that got progressively worse. And once Villian was done he proved his love to her.

Until she learned that she wasn't the only one and that she was being used for her love. Not knowing what to do she refused him one night. By the time he was down with her, she knew what he felt was not love. But her fear of him caused her to stay and endure. Doing as he asked. Performing as expected. For him and then his friends until she did whatever was asked.

When away from the home, they were staying and out of the gaze of Villian or his friends she worked to rekindle the cockiness that she had before. Until she got an idea that if she were caught the guild would never pay for her release. So she started making small mistakes. Then larger until she was caught. The guild paid her fines and she was returned to her miserable existence as a thing. She was caught again... then again. Her debt to the guild building up. Then one day she tried to steal the purse of one of those holier than thou princelings. She was caught and the guild finally refused to pay her fine instead requesting that they remove the troublesome girl's hands . They had apparent other uses for her in their brothel. The magistrate agreed and she was sentenced to lose her hands. At the last moment she was rescued by the paladin Aendell. He gave her money to provision herself and she did but not without first sneaking back into the guild hall and grabbing a few items.
