Years ago, back when she was still a deputy in Coldwater, she investigated a series of missing-persons cases that bore eerie similarities to what’s happening now. The fog was thick, people were vanishing without a trace, and strange symbols appeared on abandoned homes.
But back then, Maggie dismissed the supernatural angle.
One night, she got a call—a local man, Simon Mercer, had barricaded himself inside his house, screaming that "they were coming through." When Maggie arrived, she found him clawing at his own walls, trying to complete some kind of protective glyphs. His eyes were wild with terror, insisting that the breach was opening.
Maggie, convinced he was having a psychotic episode, arrested him instead of listening. She wiped away the symbols, securing the scene according to standard procedure.
Simon vanished that night. No sign of forced entry. No sign of struggle. Just gone.
No one spoke about it after. The official report said he left town, abandoning his life. But Maggie knows better. She knows Coldwater took him—and that she might have erased his only chance at survival.
Now, with history repeating itself, Maggie is haunted by Simon’s fate. His face still appears in her dreams, his voice still calls to her in the fog. And this time, she refuses to dismiss the warnings.
